SECR P Class Locomotive
The SECR P Class was a small class of eight locomotives - the first two built in 1909 with the remaining six in 1910. Modifications to the second batch included: lowered tank & cabs as well as alternate smokebox rivetting. Originally intended to be deployed on local passenger services, using push-pull equipment, they were quickly found to be somewhat lacking in power and were transferred to shunting and station pilot duties. Although not a very numerous class of locomotives, they are very well represented in preservation with four examples having been saved. Two are currently undergoing overhaul while two are still operational.
